Hooray! What a FUN day we had on Friday 12th August at our James Street School Mini Olympics. We had our opening ceremony with a parade of countries with their flags flying proudly, the olympic torch and lighting of the olympic flame, our Karakia and an opening speech by Mrs Dakin- "Let the Games Begin!" Then we marched to the field to take part in lots of FUN activities such as vortex throw, gumboot throw, hurdles, petanque, frisbees, relays, egg and spoon races, 3 legged races and obstacle courses. In our teams we got points for cheering and supporting our team-mates, showing good sportsmanship, being proud, respectful and safe and for trying our best. After all the activities the points for each country team were tallied up and then we had our medal ceremony.
We cheered for the winning countries and for everyone who took part and tried their best like the Olympic Creed and Motto:
"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.”
